Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed sympathy for Nigerians who were deported from South Africa, saying many of them left the country with hopes of building better lives abroad but returned without achieving their expectations.

Speaking in a video from 1:35:11  posted by TVC on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the First Lady reflected on the plight of the deportees while emphasizing the importance of creating opportunities at home. She said it was encouraging that the returnees still had a country willing to receive and support them despite their difficult experience.

According to her, “Look at what happened with all those deportees from South Africa. It is disheartening. They went, at least with some resources, to South Africa, thinking that they’d come back big, but unfortunately, they came back empty. But I’m glad they have a home that can receive them.”

Oluremi Tinubu said the experience of the deportees serves as a reminder of the uncertainties many Nigerians face when seeking opportunities abroad.
