In a recent video from 01:13:10 on his church official YouTube page on Thursday, May 21st 2026, The Nigerian pastor David Ibiyeomie has shared a reflective story during a sermon at Salvation Ministries highlighting the emotional experience of migration and life abroad.

He narrated an account involving a woman close to him who travelled to the United States with her family but later struggled with loneliness and social isolation. According to the story, she observed that her husband and daughter would leave home early in the morning for work and school and often return late in the evening, leaving her alone for most of the day.

She reportedly expressed disappointment with the lack of social interaction in her environment. “Nobody greets you or checks on you the way people do back home,” she was quoted as saying. She further explained that neighbors rarely interacted, and people generally kept to themselves, creating a sense of emotional distance in the community.

The pastor used the illustration to contrast communal African living with what he described as the more individualistic lifestyle often experienced in Western countries. He emphasized that while many people move abroad in search of better economic opportunities, they may not anticipate the emotional and social challenges that can come with such relocation.

“People may have jobs, houses, and cars but still feel empty because there is no community life,” he reportedly said during the sermon, stressing the importance of human connection and belonging.

He further noted that the African cultural environment tends to foster stronger interpersonal relationships, where greetings, visits, and communal support are more common in daily life. The message resonated with discussions among migrants and observers who acknowledge that while life abroad may offer financial stability, it can also come with emotional trade-offs.
