Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has told Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara that people who opposed his emergence as governor cannot be happy to see him succeed.
In a video from 1:48 posted by Channels Television, speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike made this statement while saying the rift between him and Fubara stemmed from bad advice that turned Fubara against the political structure that supported him shortly after he assumed office.
Wike explained that not everyone around a leader means well. According to him, some advisers begin to push a narrative that a governor should shed the influence of those who helped him get into power and instead establish his own identity.
He said such advice often comes through family members, in-laws, and close associates and can mislead a governor into believing he can do everything alone.
He stated that Fubara made that mistake by deciding to discard those who gave him support. Wike warned that once that happens, those who never wanted the governor in office in the first place will take advantage and come in.
He said the crisis in Rivers was avoidable if the governor had been more discerning about the kind of counsel he accepted and had recognized the role played by those who helped bring him to power.
In his words, “So, it turns to the whole of you to sit down there and listen. This kind of advice now, where will it lead me to? You have to think about it.”
