Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Idi Farouk, has raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria following the reported abduction of 416 residents in Borno State.

Speaking during an interview from 4:55 on Trust TV, Farouk questioned the credibility of official narratives surrounding the fight against banditry and insurgency. His comments come amid growing anxiety over persistent attacks in the North-East and other parts of the country.

Citing a recent media report, Farouk said, “4 days ago, my wife told me she saw a documentary on Arise TV where armed bandits were informing and boasting that the government is lying. That they are alive and well. Look at them, and they showed weapons.” He suggested that such displays by criminal groups undermine public confidence in government claims of progress in tackling insecurity.

Farouk noted that the boldness of the bandits, as portrayed in the documentary, raises serious questions about the effectiveness of current security strategies.
