Former Inter-Party Advisory Council Chairman Peter Ameh has said Peter Obi avoids speaking negatively about Atiku Abubakar and other political figures, insisting that Obi focuses on issues rather than personal attacks.
Speaking from 7:14 on Channels Television, Ameh was responding to questions about whether Obi left the African Democratic Congress to avoid primaries. He argued that Obi has a record of contesting and staying committed, pointing to the 2019 election, where Obi was Atiku’s running mate.
He said Obi brought more votes to that ticket than any of Atiku’s previous running mates and was the decisive factor in the equation. He noted that after the election, Obi pursued the matter in court consistently.
Ameh stressed that Obi does not talk about people, preferring to keep the focus on policy and governance. He said this is the approach they are trying to maintain. He also recalled that during the Labour Party primaries in Asaba, people willingly stepped down for Obi because they believed he was more competent to address the challenges in Nigeria.
He explained that Obi’s move to the ADC was driven by the need for a stable platform free of internal crisis and court battles, which he said are being used to frustrate opposition parties. Ameh praised ADC Chairman David Mark’s measured response and said Obi’s decision to leave ADC was made in the interest of the country and his supporters.
In his words, “Look at all the people Atiku has contested with as vice-president candidate. No one brought votes to that ticket than Obi. All of them had less votes. So you should know that Obi was the material in the equation.”
“And Obi is somebody who fights to the end. Look at what happened. Let me tell you something. When the 2019 election was conducted, Obi went to court every day. I think it was him. Obi went to court every day.”
“Obi is somebody who will never talk negative about Atiku. He will never talk negatively about anybody. He wants to be on the issue. He keeps on telling you, don’t discuss about people and that’s what we are learning to do.”…Read_More…
