CSP Raphael Irowainu (retd.), the National Coordinator of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), has raised concerns over the welfare of retired police officers.
In a video from 16:26 shared by Viable TV, Irowainu said Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) officers who retire after 35 years of service are being paid a total sum of 3 million naira as a total retirement package under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). He said this amount is grossly inadequate and unfair.
Irowainu said many former officers are struggling to survive and some are dying due to financial hardship.
In Irowainu’s words: “Our people are dying daily, no money to take care of them. Imagine you are paying CSP who served Nigerian police for 35 years the sum of 3 million naira. What kind of money is that? It is evil against humanity. Nigerians should call the DG of PenCom, Mrs Omolola Bridget Oloworaran, to order, she is testing the will of the retired police officers”.
