According to a video from 51:37 posted on the official YouTube channel of SYMFONI TV on Sunday, June 21, 2026, NDC Minority Caucus leader in the House of Representatives, Honorable Afam Ogene, spoke on issues relating to political activism, the rule of law, and the treatment of individuals by the Nigerian state.
During the interview, Ogene argued that there should be fairness and consistency in the way laws are applied to different citizens. He expressed concern over what he described as selective accountability, maintaining that some individuals appear to receive different treatment despite making controversial statements or engaging in actions that attract public attention.
While discussing the issue, the lawmaker referenced former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo. According to him, public discourse on security-related matters should not ignore previous actions and statements made by prominent figures across the country.
Ogene stated, “Asari Dokubo not only insults people; he also displays automatic rifles with an army of youths.”
He made the remark while responding to questions about comments attributed to other separatist agitators and activists. The federal lawmaker stressed the need for equal standards in addressing cases involving public figures, regardless of their political, regional, or ideological affiliations.
According to Ogene, a democratic society functions best when citizens have confidence that laws are applied fairly and without discrimination. He emphasized that justice must be seen to be impartial to strengthen public trust in national institutions.
