Nigerian lawyer Liborous Oshoma has questioned the elevation of Justice James Omotosho to the Court of Appeal, alleging that several judges from Ogun State with more seniority and stronger nominations were overlooked in the process.

Oshoma said in an interview from 12:22 with Arise TV, “If you look at the elevation of Justice Omotosho to the Court of Appeal, it calls for a lot of questions. There are other judges from Ogun State who were called to bar before him and who were appointed judges before him, who got more nominations than him, but at the end of the day he was elevated.”

Oshoma said the circumstances surrounding the elevation raise uncomfortable questions about whether the decision was driven by professional merit or personal connections.

He added that some of the judgments emerging from the courts of Justice Omotosho and Justice Lifu have deepened concerns, particularly in cases where INEC or the Court of Appeal had already settled the matters in question.
