Ademola Oloyede, a 42-year-old artisan, has recounted the heartbreaking loss of his six-year-old daughter, Asabi, after floodwaters from a heavy downpour submerged their home in Lagos, leaving his family devastated and him homeless after the tragic flooding incident.
According to an interview posted by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, July 12, 2026, when asked about the extent of the damage caused by the flood, he stated, “all my property has been destroyed; I only have two sets of clothes with me now, I do not have a house to stay in anymore, and I am presently staying with a friend.”
Oloyede explained that the flood entered their compound after a church fence collapsed, allowing large volumes of water and dirt into their residence while his wife, children and baby were inside during the sudden and unexpected weather disaster.
The grieving father revealed that his daughter was sleeping when the flooding occurred and could not survive the disaster despite rescue efforts from residents who helped others escape through rooftops as the water rapidly covered the surrounding area.
He described Asabi as a brilliant, smart and lovely child who often welcomed him whenever he returned from work, adding that she had dreams of becoming a singer before her life was tragically cut short by flood incident.
Oloyede said the disaster destroyed everything he owned, including household belongings, leaving him with only two sets of clothes and no permanent shelter while he struggles to rebuild his life after the painful experience caused by the flood.
