According to a report by Punch News on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Ajarah Ayanwale, one of the parents whose children were kidnapped by terrorists after they invaded three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, recounted her ordeal, saying that they saw the terrorists (kidnappers) in army uniforms, and what they had in mind was that they were in the community to protect them.

She said, “We saw the kidnappers in army uniforms in the morning. We thought they were in the community to protect us.”

Narrating her ordeal, Ajarah said gunshots rang out a few minutes after the terrorists had deceived them; they were in the community for protection. People began running in all directions, and everyone became worried about the safety of the children.
