Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has questioned the delay in appointing a new minister to represent Abia State in the Federal Executive Council, raising concerns about what he described as unequal treatment among states.

The Abia South lawmaker made the remarks during an interview from 6:17 on TV Platinum, where he addressed recent developments involving ministerial resignations and subsequent replacements by the federal government. His comments come amid growing political discussions over representation and federal balance in Nigeria’s governance structure.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Abaribe said, “Ministers have resigned and they are being replaced. Why is Abia State not getting a minister after our Minister has resigned.” He argued that the continued absence of a minister from Abia State raises questions about fairness and adherence to the federal character principle enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution.

The senator noted that other states whose ministers vacated their positions have already received replacements, making Abia’s situation particularly concerning. According to him, leaving the state without representation at the federal cabinet level could have implications for policy advocacy and access to federal opportunities.
