According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 9, 2026, US President Donald Trump said Iran recently reached out with a strong desire to negotiate, despite heightened tensions following recent incidents in the region. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed Tehran is eager to strike an agreement but questioned whether its leadership can be trusted to follow through on any commitments.

Trump said, “They called a little while ago, they want to make a deal so badly.”

Despite the reported contact, the US president expressed doubts about Iran’s credibility and willingness to respect the terms of any future agreement.

“I just don’t if they are worthy of making a deal. I don’t know if they are going to honor a deal, that’s the problem,” he tells reporters aboard Air Force One.

When asked why Iran would allegedly target commercial ships while also seeking negotiations, Trump suggested the country’s actions have been unpredictable. He said Tehran appeared to be acting irrationally but insisted its leadership still wants to secure an agreement with Washington.

Trump also issued a warning against any attacks on American personnel or facilities, saying the United States would respond with overwhelming force if provoked.
