Former DSS Assistant Director Dennis Amachree has faulted the rehabilitation of former Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, arguing that Nigeria’s approach stands in sharp contrast to how the United States handles captured terrorists.

Speaking from 8:36 on TVC, Amachree said, “Our counter-terrorist strategy should be more kinetic because I don’t think the non-kinetic part is working. Even in the United States, Guantanamo Bay still has terrorists that have been captured from Afghanistan and Pakistan. They’re still there. They don’t release them. We cannot just take these people in, release them, and then they go back and cause more problems,” he said.

Amachree argued that any fighter who surrenders or is captured should be processed through Nigeria’s justice system and made to answer in court for every crime committed, rather than being quietly forgiven and reintegrated into society.
