According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 general election, has expressed concerns about his political future, saying he may not be alive to participate in the election.

He alleged that the government has continued to frustrate his activities while also targeting opposition figures across the country.

Obi made the remarks while speaking during an interview on With Chude, where he discussed the challenges he believes he has faced as a leading opposition politician.

The interview was shared on Wednesday by media personality Chude Jideonwo through his X account, bringing renewed attention to Obi’s claims regarding the political climate ahead of the 2027 election.

During the conversation, the former Labour Party presidential candidate spoke about what he described as increasing pressure on him and those associated with him, maintaining that the situation had become a source of concern.

While responding to a question about the possibility that he might not eventually emerge as a candidate in the 2027 presidential election, Obi stated that he could not rule out such an outcome.

He suggested that the circumstances surrounding his political activities had created uncertainty about the future, adding that he believed he was facing deliberate obstacles because of his role in the opposition.

Obi also disclosed that some of his supporters had advised him against attending family gatherings and other personal events.

According to him, the warnings were based on concerns about his safety and the possibility of incidents that could arise during such occasions.

He indicated that those close to him had become increasingly worried about the risks associated with his public appearances.

Speaking further, the former presidential candidate recalled an experience at an airport, which he cited as an example of the treatment he claimed to have received.

He alleged that officials locked his vehicle while it was parked, despite the fact that other vehicles in the same location were not subjected to the same action.

Obi said the incident reinforced his belief that he was being singled out because of his political position.

He further alleged that the pressure extended beyond him to people around him, claiming that some individuals who knew him were reluctant to associate with him publicly.
