Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the handling of the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, saying he was shocked to learn that Governor Seyi Makinde had not received a call from the President more than 50 days after the incident.

In a post on X, Obi said the worsening security situation showed a failure of leadership and compassion. He explained that he had spoken publicly about the abduction, appealed to the kidnappers to free the children, and called Makinde twice to express his support.

According to Obi, he shared his experience as a former governor, recalling that past presidents regularly contacted state governors during major security crises. He said he was surprised to discover that Tinubu had not personally reached out to Makinde over the abduction.
