Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has revealed that he persistently sent emails to former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as he sought to transition from a successful career in Nollywood into politics.
Speaking on the Morayo Afolabi-Brown Podcast from 5:52, on Tuesday, 23 June, 2026, Elliot recounted how determined he was to get the attention of political leaders during the early stages of his political ambition. He explained that he repeatedly emailed Fashola, hoping to demonstrate his interest in public service and create an opportunity to engage with the former governor.
According to the Lagos State lawmaker, his persistence eventually caught Fashola’s attention, leading to a memorable encounter at the Lagos Continental Hotel. Elliot said the former governor acknowledged receiving the numerous emails, a response he interpreted as a polite way of asking him to ease up.
“He saw me on Lagos Continental one day and said, ‘Desmond, I have been seeing your mails o, thank you’. He was trying to tell me ‘boy, cool down’.”
Elliot made the remarks while reflecting on the determination that characterised his journey from the entertainment industry into politics. He noted that he understood the importance of staying visible and consistently expressing his interest, even when immediate opportunities did not present themselves.
