According to a report by Daily Post, on Monday July 20, 2026, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of relying heavily on propaganda to win political power in Nigeria.
Okonkwo made the statements while reflecting on the 2015 general election that brought former President Muhammadu Buhari to power, according to him, the APC successfully used public messaging and criticism against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan to gain support from Nigerians.
The former Labour Party spokesman described the APC as a party that became successful through what he called a well-organized propaganda campaign.
He argued that Jonathan faced constant criticism from opposition figures during his time in office, he said the former president was repeatedly portrayed negatively, with accusations that he was unable to effectively manage the country’s challenges.
The ADC chieftain recalled that former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, was one of the leading voices of the opposition campaign at the time, he claimed that the APC used strong political messaging to convince many Nigerians that the Jonathan administration had failed in several areas.
According to Okonkwo, insecurity in the North-East and the controversial removal of fuel subsidy were among the major issues that shaped public opinion against Jonathan before the election.
He praised Jonathan’s conduct during and after the 2015 election, he said the former president chose not to use state power against opposition politicians despite intense political attacks from rivals.
