According to a report by Sahara Reporters on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Aminah, one of the survivors of the three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area invaded by terrorists, has recounted her ordeal, saying that their teacher was the first to run away, leaving them alone when the incident occurred. She said she and her classmates had to jump through the window.
The traumatised schoolgirl stated that they were in the classroom during a lesson when gunshots were suddenly heard from outside. She reported that the teacher fled first, leaving the students behind. In order to escape, they jumped through the window and ran into the bush.
She explained that they remained in the bush until evening, when shouting voices could be heard. At that point, everyone emerged from their hiding places. Those who escorted them home were residents of the same communities.
