According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, May 18, 2026, Julius Abure has faulted the handling of the post-2023 election crisis within the Labour Party, directing criticism at the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over how internal disputes were managed after the general election.

Abure stated that the developments that followed the election exposed weaknesses in the management of the party’s internal disagreements, which escalated into prolonged leadership tensions.

According to Abure, Peter Obi did not effectively address or control the disagreements that emerged within the party after the polls.

He maintained that the inability to properly manage the situation contributed to the deepening divisions within the party structure.

He further suggested that the former Anambra State governor may come to regret how events unfolded in relation to the internal disputes.

Abure made these remarks in a viral video shared on Monday, which was attributed to News Central TV.

The disputes have also extended to questions over authority, representation, and decision-making processes within the party’s national leadership, further widening existing rifts.

In the period following the election, Peter Obi, who rose to national prominence during the 2023 presidential contest under the Labour Party platform, later moved politically.

He exited the Labour Party and joined the African Democratic Congress before subsequently aligning with the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
