In a recent interview from 32:15 on Trust TV, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), spoke on voter behaviour, political accountability, and public perception of elected leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, Kwankwaso stated, “Over 1.29 million people who voted for him are angry because they refused to collect noodles.” He made the remark while commenting on the growing dissatisfaction among citizens and the expectations placed on political leaders after elections.
Kwankwaso used the statement to emphasize what he described as the difference between genuine electoral choice and short-term incentives during campaigns. He suggested that voters are becoming more aware of their power and increasingly express frustration when governance outcomes do not meet their expectations.
The former Kano State governor noted that Nigerians are now more politically conscious, especially in the wake of economic challenges and rising cost of living. He added that citizens are beginning to evaluate leaders based on performance rather than pre-election promises or material inducements.
Kwankwaso further explained that democratic accountability requires constant engagement between leaders and the electorate. According to him, once elections are concluded, leaders must focus on delivering good governance rather than relying on transactional politics.
