During an interview from 7:32 on Nigeria Info FM on Monday, May 11, 2026, Majeed Dahiru spoke about the influence of political endorsements in Nigerian elections while reacting to discussions surrounding possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Dahiru made the remarks while discussing suggestions that support from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could boost the electoral chances of Peter Obi if both politicians align politically ahead of the next general election.
According to him, “If Obi is going to run under Atiku’s endorsement, there’s no guarantee that those who would have voted for Atiku will vote for Obi. There’s no guarantee. It happened in the APC in the 2023 election. Buhari, for instance, endorsed Tinubu as the party candidate of his own APC, right? But Tinubu lost in Katsina, Tinubu lost in Kaduna, and Tinubu lost in Kano. These are Buhari’s strongest roles, meaning Buhari supporters didn’t buy the idea that Tinubu should be president.”
Dahiru argued that political endorsements do not automatically translate into votes, noting that voters often make independent decisions regardless of the position taken by influential political figures.
