In a recent interview from 15:15 on Arise TV, Nigerian lawyer and public policy analyst Chris Nwokobia spoke on opposition unity, political structure, and emerging realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

During the interview, Nwokobia stated, “If Kwankwaso and Obi can fix our country, why didn’t they unite in the ADC to defeat Atiku?” He made the remark while discussing what he described as persistent fragmentation within opposition politics and the consequences of failing to build a united front.

He referenced prominent opposition figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, arguing that despite their influence and followership, the opposition has remained divided across different political platforms rather than consolidating into a single strategic alliance.

Nwokobia explained that political strength is not only measured by popularity or electoral performance, but also by the ability to merge interests, build consensus, and form a unified structure capable of challenging dominant political forces, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He noted that the continued existence of multiple opposition blocs such as the African Democratic Congress and other emerging alliances reflects deeper structural and leadership challenges within Nigeria’s opposition space.

According to him, personal ambition, mistrust, and lack of coordinated strategy continue to undermine efforts at building a formidable coalition that can effectively compete against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Nwokobia maintained that effective political leadership requires sacrifice, discipline, and a willingness to subsume individual ambitions under a broader national objective, especially in competitive electoral environments.

He further stated that as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, political actors will be judged not only by their popularity but by their ability to build durable alliances and functional political structures.

Nwokobia concluded by stressing that sustainable opposition politics depends on unity and strategic coordination, warning that continued fragmentation may once again weaken the opposition’s chances in the next general elections….Read_More…
