According to a video from 14:22 posted on the official YouTube channel of Channels Television on Friday, May 8, 2026, legal practitioner and African Democratic Congress chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, made strong remarks while discussing the future of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview on Hard Copy, Okonkwo reacted to conversations surrounding the leadership ambitions of Peter Obi within the opposition coalition.

During the discussion, he said, “Let him step aside, we are not chickens in Igbo land, we are eagles, we open our wings and fly.”

Okonkwo argued that the Southeast region has many capable individuals who can aspire to the presidency and should not depend on only one political figure. He maintained that leadership should be based on strategy, courage, and the ability to build strong political alliances across the country.
