Former presidential aspirant and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that the legal cases against him are part of a broader strategy aimed at distracting him and limiting his political activities. Sowore made the remarks while addressing journalists after court proceedings in Abuja on Friday, May 8, 2026, in comments aired by Symfoni TV from 2:02.
The activist, who is currently facing legal proceedings initiated by the Department of State Services, claimed that the court actions against him were designed to keep him occupied with prolonged litigation instead of political mobilisation.
He said, “The problem that people haven’t gotten yet is that most of them are just distracting you away from the real solution to the problem. And one of their strategies to keep us tied down in court, you have seen it now.”
According to him, the legal actions against him followed a deliberate pattern which he claimed began with the seizure of his international passport. “What I’ve been telling you, that their plan from day one when they dreamt of this thing was that seize his passport, when he gets it back find another charge and they brought this one up,” he stated. “And they got the judge, got the lawyer and everybody,” he added.
Sowore, however, maintained that the developments had not weakened his political movement. “But they did not anticipate that we’ll be growing stronger and stronger every day,” he said.
The former presidential aspirant also alleged that there were indications before the court sitting that authorities intended to take actions unfavourable to him. “When we came this morning you must have seen the manner they were upset that we are coming to court because they knew they were going to do what they did today,” Sowore stated.
He added that his team had anticipated the developments before the court session commenced. “When you see them doing, you can tell from the morning time the way they behave at the gates when they have something bad to do. So we already studied it,” he said.
Sowore also compared several Nigerian political figures, insisting that his political ideology differed from theirs. “As far as I’m concerned and Jonathan, Jonathan is not different from Tinubu, Tinubu is not different from Atiku, Atiku is not different from Obi or Kwakwanso,” he stated.
The activist argued that his political movement represented a separate ideological direction from the mainstream political establishment. “We are the ones who are different and that is the idea that they are afraid of in all this struggle that you are saying,” Sowore said.
He further maintained that his activism and political engagements would have remained unchanged regardless of which political leader was in power. “If any one of them was in power I would still be here because they can’t tolerate progressive ideas that can liberate the country,” he added…Read_More…
