Nigerian performer Korra Obidi has shared a personal and delicate experience from the early phase of her now-ended marriage, revealing that uncertainty and doubt influenced some of her choices before she moved to the United States.
Speaking on the One54 Africa Podcast from 1:09:56, she reflected on how her relationship with her ex-husband developed and the emotional uncertainty she grappled with at the time.
According to her account, although they were already romantically involved, she found it difficult to believe he was genuinely committed to a long-term future with her.
Korra disclosed that before relocating to join him in the U.S., she became involved with someone else, explaining that she did not think he would keep his promises to come to Nigeria or take the relationship further.
In her words: “Before I traveled to meet my husband in America, I had an affair because I didn’t think he was serious about marrying me. I assumed he wasn’t being sincere.” She noted that at the time, she doubted whether the relationship would evolve into something lasting.
She went on to say that after arriving in the United States, she admitted what had happened to him. According to her, that revelation became a significant moment that impacted the course of their marriage, as it introduced tension that later affected their relationship.
