Reno Omokri, Nigeria Ambassador to Mexico, has detailed plans to promote Nigerian industries and expand trade relations, particularly with Mexico, as part of his diplomatic priorities.

Speaking to News Central TV from 3:35 on Monday, April 27, 2026, after the Induction Course for Ambassadors and High Commissioners Designate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Omokri highlighted opportunities for Nigerian exports and corporate expansion.

“I was with Alhaji Aliko Dangote and one of the things, he gave me a tour of his refinery. While I was there, I saw ships going to Argentina in particular, and then going to Asia. But then Alhaji told me he has the capacity to supply even countries in the Americas,” he said.

He stated that supporting Nigerian businesses abroad would be a key focus of his assignment. “And so what I want to do as a priority for myself is to advance the Nigerian corporate industry. Not just Alhaji Aliko Dangote, other people, you know, Nigerian banks, you know, to advise them,” he added.

Omokri expressed interest in expanding export routes from Nigeria’s refining sector. “So I want to see ships heading from the Alhaji Aliko Dangote refinery to Mexico. I want to see banks, you know, coming like Tony Elumelu’s bank, other banks in Nigeria, even banks,” he said.

He also referenced financial institutions linked to other political figures, emphasizing a non-partisan approach. “I mean, I am going there to represent Nigeria. You know, Peter Obi has a bank, he’s a large shareholder in one of the banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank. I give my word, I will promote that bank in Mexico. So I’m going there, I’m dead to any political partisanship. I’m going to project Nigeria,” he stated.

Omokri identified petroleum products as a key export opportunity. “So one of the things that I know that we can do immediately in Mexico is to refine petroleum products. That is a huge, there’s a huge demand for that over there. We’re going to send that,” he said.

He further pointed to opportunities for collaboration in the automotive sector. “And then coming from there, over here, Mexico is one of the world leaders in vehicle manufacturing.
