Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, has clarified that the police did not issue an order prohibiting protests in Rivers State.

During an interview on Channels Television  from 0:10, Commissioner Disu made it clear that the police’s intention was to caution those planning protests. He explained that the warning was issued to prevent potential hijacking by external parties, which could escalate into disorder.

In his own words, as broadcasted on Channels Television tonight, Commissioner Disu stated:

“We didn’t say nobody should protest, we have never said that. But we warned them not to do it so that it will not be hijacked. We have taken note of everyone who came out today, we have gotten across to them and we have continued to warn and advice them at the same time that we don’t want to encourage people marching around so that it will not be hijacked by other parties.”…..Sēe Morē
