Former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung has alleged that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso should not be taken for granted as Peter Obi’s running mate even if Obi secures the ADC presidential ticket.
Speaking in an interview from 14:08 with Daily Trust, Dalung said, “You cannot predetermine that if Peter Obi gets the ticket, Kwankwaso should be his running mate. Look at what happened in 1999. After Obasanjo picked the ticket, the Sule Lamido and Abubakar Rimi were the contender for vice president and names being associated with Obasanjo. But after the primaries, the party had to weigh a ticket that would deliver, and they went for an elected governor as vice president.”
Dalung drew a further comparison with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 campaign, noting that Buhari had a preferred President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his running mate in mind during the campaign but that the ground realities including a significant show of support from Christian voters ultimately forced a change in calculation.
