In a video from 2:38 shared by Splash FM 1055, former President Goodluck Jonathan stated that late General Murtala Mohammed was one of Nigeria’s most dynamic military Heads of State before he was assassinated in a military coup
Jonathan said he was told that Murtala Mohammed delivered a speech in Addis Ababa that offended some people and those people later plotted his downfall
Jonathan said he did not want to go into details about the story. He said former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who served as Murtala Mohammed’s second-in-command, can tell the full story better
In Jonathan’s words: “One of our most dynamic military Heads of State Late General Murtala Mohammed who was assassinated in a military coup, we were told that he made a speech in Addis Ababa and that speech was offensive to some people and they had to plot his downfall. I don’t want to go into that story, I wish Obasanjo were to be here, he was the 2IC to Murtala Mohammed I would have asked him to tell us the stories”
