In a recent video from 7:32 shared on Facebook, on Monday, September 7, 2026, Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, discussed traditional customs and practices concerning the movement of corpses through different territories in Kalabari land.
During the discussion, Dokubo explained that there are established traditional rules governing the passage of a corpse through another person’s land. He said permission must be obtained before such a movement can take place.
Speaking during the video, Dokubo stated, “In Kalabari land, you don’t take a corpse through another man’s land without his permission.” He made the statement while explaining the importance of respecting traditional boundaries and authority.
According to Dokubo, the practice reflects the respect attached to land ownership and traditional authority within Kalabari communities. He maintained that individuals are expected to observe the customs governing the territories through which they pass.
The traditional ruler further explained that such customs are part of the traditional system that regulates relationships between communities and individuals. He suggested that disregarding these practices could amount to disrespecting the authority of the person or community whose land is being crossed.
