U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has accused billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk of using his wealth to influence American politics, alleging that the Tesla and SpaceX chief is seeking to help Republicans retain control of Congress through massive political spending.
In a post shared on X, Sanders claimed that Musk spent about $290 million to support Donald Trump’s election campaign, describing the expenditure as an investment that had paid off significantly.
According to the senator, Musk’s fortune has since increased by about $438 billion, strengthening his financial and political influence.
Sanders further alleged that the billionaire now plans to spend another $100 million to help Republicans maintain control of Congress, a move he suggested could further concentrate political power in the hands of wealthy individuals.
Expressing concern over the growing influence of billionaires in U.S. politics, Sanders urged Americans to resist what he described as oligarchy and protect the country’s democratic institutions.
