A Former Speaker of Enugu House of Assembly, Eugene Odo has alleged that the South Easterners who are known to be commercially oriented do not have a railway line as compared to the recent development in other regions. He stated that the Port-Harcourt Enugu rail line has been abandoned without much attention over the years.

He argued the unequal treatment at the central level has made the locals feel neglected and unrepresented by the government. He also stated that the public service is one of the areas where this inequality manifests, and he claimed that the number of people from the South East serving in government roles is significantly lower than other regions.

He said in an interview with Arise TV The from Minute 14:59, ”The insecurity that we are talking of is about the inequality in the South East. For instance, you can see how railways are built in about all the regions of the country. And the people who are known as being commercially oriented don’t have a rail line in Nigeria. Port-Harcourt Enugu rail line has been abandoned and nobody is talking about it.

So these people feel that the government does not represent them much and that is why at times, they will even vent their anger on innocent people representing them. And as to whether or not the South East get things duly, I believe that they do not in all ramifications gets things duly. If you go to public service, you can count how many people who are from South East that are there.”….Sée Móre
