Public Affairs Analyst Dayo Akintobo has questioned the effectiveness of government rescue efforts following the recent abduction of students in Oyo State, alleging that authorities have been unable to secure the victims’ release despite having intelligence on their whereabouts.
Akintobo made the remarks during an interview from 12:07 on Vanguard News TV, on Tuesday 2 June, 2026, while discussing the ongoing response to the school abduction that has generated widespread concern among residents, parents, and education stakeholders across the state.
Speaking on the government’s handling of the situation, the analyst suggested that security agencies were aware of the location of the abductors but had encountered setbacks in attempts to free the victims.
“Government obviously know where these people are, but they have tried twice to execute rescue effort and failed,” Akintobo said during the interview.
His comments come amid growing public anxiety over the safety of students and the increasing frequency of kidnapping incidents targeting schools and communities in different parts of the country. The abduction has renewed calls for stronger security measures around educational institutions and more proactive intelligence gathering to prevent such attacks.
