Retired General John Enenche has expressed concern over the reaction of some Nigerians on social media to the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers of Community High School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He said misinformation and public distrust have become major challenges, even when security operations are successfully carried out.
Speaking during an interview from 24:24 on Channels Television on Monday, 13 July, 2026, while reacting to comments questioning the authenticity of the rescue operation, Enenche said he personally coordinated aspects of the mission and received verified information directly from personnel on the ground. Despite this, he said some social media users continued to dismiss confirmed developments as false.
According to him, “I was there as a coordinator and even things that I confirmed from the field, on social media they will say ‘it’s not true’. It’s unfortunate but I want to say that we need for once as a government, as a people to have strategix relationship with the populace.”
The retired general said the growing gap between government institutions and members of the public has contributed to widespread scepticism over official information.
