Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027, arguing that divisions within the opposition have significantly weakened efforts to challenge the incumbent administration.

Fayose made the remarks during an interview from 15:48 on Channels Television on Monday, June 1, 2026, while discussing the evolving political landscape ahead of the next general election.

According to the former governor, public discourse on social media does not accurately reflect the realities of Nigeria’s political environment, insisting that President Tinubu currently faces no formidable electoral challenge.

“Nobody is contesting against Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You may not like to hear this. There is a difference between reality and noise in the social media,” Fayose said.

He, however, acknowledged that the political equation could be different if major opposition figures were able to unite behind a single platform and candidate. “If the opposition, Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, all of them were to be in one party against Tinubu, I would say Tinubu would get a run for his money,” he stated.

Fayose noted that opposition leaders have struggled to build a cohesive political front, arguing that the proliferation of parties and competing interests has undermined their chances of mounting a serious challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Tinubu is like every Nigerian leader that I believe in. But let me tell you, the moment that they have NDC, and they have ADC, eh? Initially they were saying Tinubu was a one-party state. Now there are so many parties. They have destroyed their journey by themselves,” he said.

The former governor also drew parallels with the 2023 presidential election, which featured three major contenders from different political parties. He argued that the fragmentation of opposition votes contributed to Tinubu’s victory and suggested that a similar scenario could play out in 2027.

“You remember that when Obi contested, Atiku contested, Tinubu contested, because it’s a major three-horse race, Tinubu had his way,” Fayose stated.

Looking ahead to the next election cycle, Fayose maintained that the current political dynamics favour the President unless opposition parties are able to overcome their differences and present a united front. “And I’m telling you again, Tinubu will have his way with ease,” he added…..Read_More…
