PDP chieftain Jaafar Bello has expressed doubts over the promise by Peter Obi to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, saying Nigerian politicians often make commitments that they later fail to honour.

Speaking during an interview from 9:19 on Trust TV, Bello stated that political promises made during campaigns should be approached with caution, noting that many public office holders in the country have a history of abandoning positions they once strongly defended during election periods.

“He [Peter Obi] is not going to serve one term if he eventually wins the election. He is just playing to the gallery. He is not going to serve one term. Nigerian politicians are used to saying things they cannot stick to because we are not a nation guided by a certain moral compass.”

He said the conversation around a single-term presidency should not only focus on campaign statements but also on the broader political culture in Nigeria where leaders are often influenced by changing political interests and pressures after assuming office.
