According to a report by Al Jazeera on May 8, 2026, the spokesperson for the Iranian parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, Ebrahim Rezaei, said that Tehran’s “restraint is over” amid rising tensions with the United States and its allies.
Rezaei wrote on X that “Any aggression against our vessels will be met with a heavy and decisive Iranian response against American vessels and bases,” signaling a tougher stance from Tehran. He also warned that “The clock is ticking against the Americans’ interests; it is to their benefit not to act foolishly and sink themselves deeper into the quagmire they have fallen into. The best course is to surrender and concede concessions. You must get used to the new regional order.”
His remarks came shortly after Iranian military spokesperson Akrami Nia issued a separate warning earlier in the day. According to the Tasnim News Agency, Nia said that any country enforcing US sanctions on Iran would “definitely face difficulties passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” a key global oil shipping route.
The statements reflect growing friction between Iran and the United States over sanctions enforcement, naval activity, and regional influence in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s oil supply is transported, remains a major flashpoint in the dispute.
