According to a report by The Times Of Israel on April 24, 2026, nearly a day after US President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his first public remarks, accusing Hezbollah of attempting to undermine the fragile truce.
“I promised you that we would change the face of the Middle East,” says Netanyahu in a video released just before Shabbat, “and that is exactly what we are doing.”
Netanyahu disclosed that he recently held a phone conversation with Trump, during which they discussed ceasefire arrangements involving both Iran and Lebanon. He emphasized the strength of coordination between their governments amid ongoing regional tensions.
“I had an excellent conversation with President Trump,” says Netanyahu. “He is putting very strong pressure on Iran, both economically and militarily. We are operating in full cooperation.”
Turning to developments in Lebanon, Netanyahu stated that Israel has initiated steps aimed at reaching a significant peace agreement. However, he warned that Hezbollah’s actions are threatening to derail those efforts, describing the group’s behavior as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the situation.
“The same applies in Lebanon,” he continues. “We have begun a process to achieve a historic peace between Israel and Lebanon, and it is clear to us that Hezbollah is trying to sabotage this. We are maintaining full freedom of action against any threat, including emerging threats. We struck yesterday and we struck today. We are determined to restore security to the residents of the north.”
