Umar Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emphasized that Atiku Abubakar and his allies remain highly interested in forming a coalition ahead of 2027.

He stated this following Atiku’s recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, accompanied by notable political figures such as Nasir El-Rufai and Aminu Tambuwal.

During an interview with Arise TV from 4:06, Sani explained that the group is keen on seeing the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) break away from the party before the 2027 elections.

He said their preference is for this faction to join either the Peoples Democratic Party or the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He noted that even if the CPC bloc does not align directly with the PDP, its defection to the SDP could help weaken the APC’s structure, similar to the impact Peter Obi’s departure had on the PDP in 2023, when he took a significant number of votes to the Labour Party.

Umar Sani expressed confidence that Abdullahi Ganduje’s discreet visit to Muhammadu Buhari was likely aimed at securing Buhari’s continued loyalty to the APC and preventing him from engaging in actions that could be considered disloyal to the party.

He said, “The Atiku group is very much interested in a coalition, and because they want a coalition, they want the CPC bloc from the APC to shift. Even if they will not shift to the PDP, let them shift to the SDP, so that what happened to the PDP in 2023, when Peter Obi moved to the Labour Party, taking most of our votes with him to the Labour Party, will now happen to the APC. I’m confident that the reason why Ganduje would pay a nocturnal visit to Muhammadu Buhari is because he wants to extract a commitment that Buhari will still be within the party and that he will not likely commit any act of anti-party.”
