A former Commissioner for Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment in Rivers State, Leloonu Nwibubasa, has noted that most of the cases the Supreme Court decided recently were initiated by the state lawmakers against the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

During an interview with Arise TV from 8:40, Nwibubasa recalled that the governor had previously returned from Abuja following the meeting with president Bola Tinubu, and withdrawn his cases against the lawmakers.

He said that the lawmakers did not withdraw their own cases, which led to their resolution by the Supreme Court. He noted that this marks the conclusion of that legal process.

While speaking regarding the president’s involvement, Nwibubasa emphasised that the current situation does not imply that since previous efforts were unsuccessful, future negotiations will be unproductive. He stressed that negotiation must remain continuous, sustainable, and subject to further consolidation.

He said, “I’m aware to the much I can remember, that the governor had returned from Abuja and withdrew his cases against the lawmakers from court. As at today, most of the cases that were now decided, were cases the lawmakers instituted against the governor (Fubara), and they didn’t withdraw their own cases. So, we’ve come to the end of that road, and here we are. The president coming in again doesn’t mean that because he couldn’t achieve much, then he may not achieve it now. After all, negotiation is something that has to be continuous, sustainable and consolidated upon and all of that.”
