Plateau State-based cleric Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo has raised concerns about the infiltration of security agencies and the ongoing threat to his life amid continued attacks on his community.
In an interview with Saturday Tribune, he claimed that some security agencies had been infiltrated by supposed repentant Boko Haram fighters who were absorbed into the military, and he suggested that this was one reason the country had struggled to effectively tackle banditry and insurgency.
He lamented that he could not remember how many times he had performed mass burials, noting that the numbers were in the hundreds just from his own account, and questioned what other pastors had experienced. He added that he had lost count of the people for whom he had conducted mass burials, recalling that even a senator had been killed in his local government.
Reverend Dachomo also disclosed that he had received threats from what he described as Fulani terrorists, who allegedly vowed to decapitate him.
Despite this, he insisted that he would not be intimidated, explaining that he had left everything in God’s hands and that no one could defend him except God. He added that, had it not been for divine protection, he would have had to leave the country.
Further talking, he said, “Several countries have offered me asylum. But how can I abandon my sheep? The shepherd must give his life for the sheep. If I take the asylum, I will be in prison; I will never have peace. I want to continue to be identified with my people.” View, More,
