The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has reacted after he joined sons and daughters of Benin to celebrate their monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, the Oba of Benin during the eight coronation anniversary thanksgiving service.
Philip Shaibu stated on his verified Twitter page on Sunday; “Today, I had the honour of joining great sons and daughters of Benin to celebrate our revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, the Oba of Benin during the eight coronation anniversary thanksgiving service held at the Holy Aruosa Cathedral in Benin City.”
He added; “As I paid homage to His Majesty, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of this moment. The weight of history, the depth of culture, and the richness of tradition enveloped me as I stood before our Royal Father. As I kneeled in reverence, I knew that I was not just honouring the Oba; I was honouring our shared history, our customs, and our collective destiny.”
The Deputy Governor of Edo State stated further; “The Oba’s enduring leadership serves as a powerful reminder of the permanence of traditional institutions, which have been the bedrock of our society for centuries. Unlike political offices, which are temporary and fleeting, traditional institutions like the Benin monarchy embody the continuity and stability that our communities need.”
He noted; “As we prepare to exit office on November 12, I am struck by the fact that our father, the Oba, remains a constant source of guidance and inspiration for our people. This juxtaposition of transient political power and enduring traditional authority teaches us a valuable lesson: no man should play God.”
