‎In a recent statement via his official X account, human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has spoken on the political outlook ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing strong views about who can challenge President Bola Tinubu.

‎”Only the North can defeat Tinubu: A younger northern candidate like a former governor can defeat Tinubu. Atiku is too old and will not excite voters. Only the north have the capacity to stop writing of results and defeat Tinubu and INEC in 2027. GEJ from South would have defeated him but with this new electoral act that allows writing of results, not sure anymore,” he wrote.

‎In his post, Adeyanju argued that the North remains the most decisive political force in determining the outcome of the next presidential election and suggested that only a candidate from the region has the strength and structure to mount a serious challenge against the current administration.

‎In his view, a younger northern politician, possibly someone with experience as a former governor, could attract the level of support needed to compete effectively, he spoke about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that age may work against him in a future contest.

‎Adeyanju believes that voters may be less motivated by his candidacy, which could weaken opposition efforts if he emerges again as a flag bearer and further raised concerns about the role of the electoral system, particularly the involvement of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

‎He suggested that only a strong and coordinated northern political movement could counter perceived irregularities and ensure a credible contest in 2027.

Adeyanju reflected on former President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that a southern candidate like him might have had better chances under different electoral conditions, he argued that recent changes in the electoral framework could make such an outcome less certain going forward…Read_More…
