In a recent statement, Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, has dismissed claims that Nigerian lawmakers are among the highest earners globally during an interview on PoliticsToday aired on Channels TV.
She stated that there is no proof that Nigerian lawmakers are among the highest earning across the globe.
Her statement comes as a result of ongoing discussions about the salaries of Nigerian lawmakers, with some alleging that they receive exorbitant salaries compared to their counterparts in other countries.
The Minister challenged the widely held belief that Nigerian legislators earn high salaries.
In the video starting from 00:25 she stated “I can tell you for free that there is no proof that Nigerian lawmakers are among the highest earning across the globe,” Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha stated.
Her comments has brought further debate on the issue, as transparency and accountability in government spending continue to be key concerns for many Nigerians.
