In a recent interview with the Nigerian Tribune, former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola shared his thoughts on the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) potential presidential candidacy for 2027, particularly addressing speculation about a Yoruba candidate.

When asked about the PDP’s likely candidate choice for 2027, especially given Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s stated intention to continue contesting, Oyinlola maintained a diplomatic stance.

“I cannot say who our candidate will be because there are rules and procedures to follow in the party,” he stated. Adding metaphorically, “When the monkey begins to tiptoe, the hunter will also start to stretch his neck; the step we will take will be based on the steps the other parties take, and we will outdo them.”

On the question of whether the South West should complete eight years of presidency to ensure North-South balance, Oyinlola appeared open to cross-party support. He remarked, “With the present hardship in the country, there is nothing wrong in voting for another Yoruba from another party to continue the tenure so that we will not be short-changed.”

These comments come amid ongoing discussions about regional representation in Nigeria’s presidency and the PDP’s strategy for the upcoming election cycle.
