A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ladan Salihu, has expressed disappointment over the reported defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the party to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the move as reflective of a broader pattern in Nigeria’s political space.

Salihu made the remarks during an interview from 1:45 on News Central TV on Monday, May 4, 2026, where he reacted to the development involving the two political figures.

Speaking during the interview, he said, “I wouldn’t say that we saw this coming, but it is not totally strange that we are here and with the, you know, the present situation at hand.” He added, “They took high regards for in politics because of their pedigree and because of their experience and because they have contributed, you know, in the political culture and socialization of politics to this moment.”

Salihu, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the process leading to their departure, stating, “But we are disappointed. I am personally disappointed that it is not the act of their leaving that bothers me, but the integrity of the process.”

He continued, “By now they would have, they should have graduated from playing, you know, the politics of, you know, migratory life, the politics of, you know, moving from one point to another, migrating from one party to the other, simply because, you know, you don’t have certain things that you think that should be meant for you to do entirely.”

Further criticising the development, Salihu said, “And these two, to me, they have descended from what many see as heroes to a parochial and primordial disposition to politics.” He added, “It is about what they want, what they get, and if they don’t get it, then they move to another camp.”

Highlighting recent events within the party, he stated, “There is nothing the ADC has not done to pamper these two.” He continued, “I can, you can recall the footage in Kano. You know, a whole team left Abuja and went to Kano to receive Kwankwaso into the ADC.”

Salihu further noted, “That was less than six weeks ago. Six weeks on, that makes him unsettled.”…Read_More…
