Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, a Nigerian lawyer and former Minister of Communications, has stated that a strong and decisive approach is required to address banditry in Nigeria, arguing that reducing the number of violent criminals even by one weakens their overall impact on society.
In an interview from 37:34 with SYMFONI TV on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Shittu spoke on the growing insecurity in the country and suggested that criminal elements should not be tolerated, as he believes such tolerance allows them to multiply and become more dangerous over time.
He explained that, in his view, a tougher system of justice is necessary to curb violent crime and restore order, adding that both religious teachings and justice principles support firm consequences for wrongdoing.
