The Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo has alleged that the Edo State Commissioner of Police (CP) has claimed ignorance about the arrests of PDP supporters and attributed them to an order from above. He called for clarification on who issued this order and why, suggesting that it may be a ploy to skew the election in favor of a particular side.
He emphasized that he has known the President for over 30 years and he believes that the President wants a free and fair election where the winning candidate is chosen by the people. However, he expressed concern about the police’s actions which seem to suggest that the playing field is not level. He alleged that the police have been intimidating their supporters, arresting them in the middle of the night and taking them away to Abuja without explanation.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 3:16, ”I have known the President for over 30 years and I know the President would like a free and fair election. And he would like where the candidate that the people want is the candidate that wins the election. I don’t know what is going on with the police but I’m sure they will explain themselves shortly but they seem to give us an impression that we don’t have a level playingfield. We don’t want our supporters intimidated, we don’t want anybody to give our supporters the impression that things are skewed to any side.
They wake up to see strange men knocking on their doors and they carry them away to Abuja. And we don’t know why some of our guys have been arrested in this manner. If you feel there is a reason to arrest our guys please tell us and charge them to Court and let’s take it from there. But don’t come in the middle of the night to whisk people away. The CP said he doesn’t know why our guys are arrested, he said it is an order from above. Let’s trace this order from above, this is an order from who and why.”….Discover–Môre
