In an interview with Arise News FROM 17:56, Labour Party chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo criticized the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, for resisting Peter Obi’s call for financial transparency within the party. Okonkwo expressed frustration with Abure’s refusal to allow an external audit of the party’s accounts, as proposed by Obi.

“Peter Obi said he wants to bring an auditor to audit the account. Why has Abure not agreed to that?” Okonkwo questioned, suggesting that Abure’s call for peace talks with Obi was disingenuous. “He’s calling Peter Obi to come and make peace, make peace on what? All the things he said you should do. Which one have you done?”

Okonkwo further highlighted that Abure’s leadership has failed to comply with the Labour Party’s constitution, particularly Article 8(c), which emphasizes building a selfless, transparent, and rule-of-law-driven leadership. He stressed that the lack of accountability is undermining the party’s core principles. “Peter Obi said do this, do this, do this, how many have you done?” Okonkwo asked, emphasizing that Abure’s actions have deviated from the party’s stated mission.

In a pointed comment, Okonkwo warned Obi that he could be betrayed by those within the party, adding, “The only thing I’m begging them is that, because he’s still my brother, anywhere they sell him to, let them let me know so that I can start looking for him.”

IN HIS WORDS;

“Peter Obi said he wants to bring an Auditor to audit the account. Why has Abure not agreed to that and he’s calling Peter Obi to come an make peace, make peace on what? All the things he said you should do. Which one have you done show transparency, to show Accountability, to conform to article 8 C of the Labour Party constitution which said we are going to build a Nigerian personality, that would be atrusic, very selfless, transparent and conform to due process and rule of law. So how have you as an Abure, what have done to conform to it. Peter Obi said do this, do this, do this, how many have you done and I told Peter Obi, these people will sell you out and I mean it. The only thing I’m begging them is that, because he’s still my brother, anywhere they sell him to, let them let me know so that I can start looking for him..”
