In a touching story of love, courage, and cultural acceptance, an Indian woman, Jessica Williams, has shared how relocating from Delhi, India, to Asaba, Nigeria, changed her life for the better.
Jessica spoke during an interview from 0:08 with Channels Television correspondent Kenny Akinwunmi, where she reflected on her journey from Asia to Nigeria after falling in love with a Nigerian man who later became her husband.
According to her, many people warned her against the decision and believed leaving India for Nigeria would be a mistake. She recalled being told that moving to Nigeria was the “worst decision” she could make, especially because of negative stories she had heard before arriving.
Despite the warnings, she chose love and decided to take the risk. She admitted that adjusting to life in Asaba was not easy at first. The weather was different, the food was unfamiliar, and she had to adapt to an entirely new environment.
However, she said things gradually changed as she experienced kindness from people in the community. She explained that market traders and strangers often treated her warmly, while some security officers who discovered she was married to a local man happily referred to her as “our wife.”
She said those moments made her feel accepted and gave her a sense of belonging in her new home. Now fully settled in Nigeria, she has embraced Igbo culture and traditions. She revealed that she and her husband gave their children Igbo names in honour of their heritage.
Jessica emphasized that Nigeria has given her more than just marriage, adding that she has found friendship, family, and a place she now proudly calls home.
